5.4 Assessment Component

Idyllic Institute of Management being affiliated to Devi Ahilya University with A+ Grade, follows the guidelines and procedures for assessment as prescribed by the University. The Department of Higher Education (MP) has introduced a Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) from the year 2021(as per NEP 2020) for all programs after introduction of NEP 2020, in which emphasis is on continuous internal assessment in addition to University Exams.

The Continuous Evaluation System (CES) in Idyllic Institute of Management is an approach to assess students’ academic progress on a regular basis throughout the semester/ year as per syllabus provided by Regulatory authority (Higher education) and affiliating body (DAVV). The system aims to provide a more holistic, ongoing assessment of a student’s abilities and learning outcomes, focusing not only on their performance during the final exam but also on their efforts, participation, and development over time as part of continuous evaluation to excel their further performance.

Being an affiliated Institution the evaluation system, exam schedules, formats, and guidelines is as per the norms prescribed by the Department of Higher Education & DAVV.

  • Role of National Education policy (2020)

The National Education Policy (NEP) emphasizes flexibility, multidisciplinary education, skill development, and holistic learning, which can greatly enhance the learning environment. With the NEP implemented well, Institution is offering to students more diverse learning opportunities through pedagogy, a focus on critical thinking and creativity, and new initiatives like vocational training, value-based education, and technology integration in classrooms.

Continuous Evaluation System

I Internal Exams

  1. Class Participation and Attendance
  • Objective: To ensure active engagement and regular attendance in lectures.
  • Criteria:
    • Attendance above 75%
  1. Assignments and Presentations
  • Objective: To encourage independent learning and improve communication skills.
  • Components:
    • Assignments:
      • Submission of two individual assignments on key topics of the syllabus.
      • Marks awarded based on originality, clarity, and timely submission.
    • Presentations:
      • Topic-based presentations focusing on subject-related case studies.
      • Evaluation based on depth of understanding, presentation skills, and audience engagement.
  1. Class Tests
  • Objective: To assess the students’ understanding of core concepts at regular intervals.
  • Components:
    • Conduct at least two class tests during the semester.
    • Tests may include:
      • Multiple-choice questions (MCQs).
      • Short descriptive answers.
      • Case-based problem-solving questions.
  1. Seminars/Workshops Participation:
  • Objective: To expose students to current trends and practical knowledge in their field of study.
  • Evaluation Method:
    • Students are required to attend and actively participate in department-organized events such as guest lectures, seminars, and workshops.
    • Marks awarded based on submission of a brief report or reflection document after the event.
  1. Major Research Project (MRP) Preparation
  • Objective: To prepare students for research work and improve analytical and writing skills.
  • Components:
    • Synopsis Submission:
      • Submission of a research proposal/synopsis, including objectives, methodology, and expected outcomes.
    • Progress Report:
      • Continuous evaluation of the research process, including a review of literature and data collection strategies.
    • Preliminary Presentation:
      • Presentation of the research outline to a faculty panel for constructive feedback.
  • External Evaluation
  • Final Exam

The external evaluation conducted at the end of the semester is designed to test the comprehensive understanding of the syllabus. It comprises:

  • Written Examination:
    • Includes theoretical and analytical questions based on the syllabus.

A mix of long and short questions to evaluate subject knowledge.

  1. Result Declaration

Once the final exams are completed, the results are typically announced within a few weeks.  The results include the grades or marks obtained by each student in their respective subjects. The    institute releases these results on its official website and also notifies students via email or through an internal portal.

  1. Retotaling/ Revaluation Process
    • If any student feels that there has been a mistake in the evaluation of their exam paper, they can apply for retotaling. The retotaling process involves a revaluation of the answer sheet to ensure that all answers have been marked correctly and that no part of the paper has been overlooked. Students need to submit a formal request for retotaling, along with any applicable fee, within a specified period after the result announcement.
  2. Updated Results
    • After the retotaling process, the updated results are published. This updated version will any changes in the grades or marks, should the retotaling process uncover discrepancies or errors in the original evaluation. The revised results are again shared on the institute’s official website and through the same channels used for the initial results
  3. Promotion in next Semester

Students are promoted to the next class after the official declaration of final results by Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV).
